I have always been an artist at heart and have been creating for as long as I can remember, “selling” my first drawing for a candy bar to a fellow camper at age 10.

Growing up in New Mexico imprinted a love of wide open landscapes and a sacred beauty in my heart. Living in California has given me a great appreciation of the ocean and the need for us to take care of it. I dedicate hours every week to picking up trash off our local beach - this inspires my use of discarded items in my collage pieces - showing man’s imprint on nature. Living  in Idaho drives my passion for nature’s majesty in all forms.

I am a multi-media artist working in acrylic, oil, collage and photography. I definitely have an eclectic style of my own - part New Mexico cowgirl, part California beach girl, part Idaho mountain girl, with a splash of sparkle and animal print.

As a true, first-born, I like to know the rules, but as a self-taught artist I then like to expand on them. I am constantly on a learning journey, and looking to enrich my process. Haiku writing and message-layering are two ways I enjoy giving meaning to my work, so many of my paintings have a corresponding poem attached or messages hidden within their layers - you just never know how the divine, humankind, or the heart is going to move you so always expect the unexpected. — Donna Gilmour

About the Artist:

Donna was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  She grew up with loving parents who indulged her creative spirit, love of horses, and weekend skeet shooting addiction.

In 1985, Donna embarked upon a land-locked kid’s dream, and went to college near the beach where she met her husband at the University of Southern California.  They married in 1991, and went on to raise 3 sons in La Cañada, CA for over 25 years.  Then, fully embracing their empty nest, Donna and Jamie ventured on a lifestyle of living between the beaches of San Clemente, CA and the majestic mountains Sun Valley, ID - a perfect fit for an artist and her adventure-loving husband.
